Understanding Age Calculation
Age can be calculated differently across various cultures. This tool follows the most commonly used age system, where age increases on a person’s birthday. For example, a person who has lived 3 years and 11 months is considered 3 years old until their next birthday when they turn 4 years old. Most Western countries use this method.
However, some cultures count age differently. In a traditional Chinese age system, people are born at age 1, and their age increases at the Traditional Chinese New Year rather than their birthday. For example, if a baby is born just one day before the Traditional Chinese New Year, they will be 2 years old after only 2 days.
How Months & Days Are Counted
Age calculations can sometimes seem confusing, especially for dates at the end of a month. For example, when calculating age from February 28 to March 31, there are two common methods:
a) Counting February 28 to March 28 as one full month, resulting in one month and 3 days.
b) Considering both February 28 and March 31 as the end of the month, resulting in exactly one month.
